Trans Europe Halles (TEH) is a Europe-based network of cultural centres initiated by citizens and artists. TEH says that they have, “been at the forefront of re-purposing Europe’s industrial buildings for arts, culture and activism since 1983. As of 2018, TEH has brought together nearly 102 multidisciplinary cultural centres and other cultural organisations from across Europe.
Our mission is to strengthen the sustainable development of non-governmental cultural centres and encourage new initiatives by connecting, supporting and promoting them.”

Lithuanian music festivals. Look like fun and frolics in some beautiful locations in the Isle of Varena. Probably mostly Electronic Dance Music (EDM) from the pics and words. They say it has been going for 13 years, but appears to be ending.

A respected intentional community in Virginia, USA. Originally founded in 1967, it has adopted some interesting methods of community work and income-generation including making and selling hammocks and tofu.

After the closure of Tacheles Arts Academy, ufa Fabrik remains an important ‘alternative arts’ space in Germany’s Berlin in Tempelhof. They describe it as a ‘cultural oasis’. It started life as a squat back in 1979 when the old Universal film studios were occupied. There are still a core of permanent residents and it is described as an eco-village. It hosts many diverse events and festivals.

Dutch, Amsterdam-based innovative housing organisation. Their site says: “Urban Resort realizes inexpensive space for the cultural, social and creative sector by transforming vacant property in lively (living) work spaces with a public function and a cultural influence. All buildings play an active role in the neighborhood or city. By reusing buildings and encouraging self Urban Resort can create affordable places.”
To celebrate the publication of Thomas More’s ‘Utopia’ 500 years ago, lots of international events – festivals, conferences, music and arts are planned.

A mystical valley and village in Ecuador. A ‘lost paradise’ or ‘paradise lost’, depending upon who you listen to. Home supposedly of some of the oldest inhabitants on Earth and the San Pedro Mushrooms. Much visited including by many would be shamen and women. But because of too many tourists, rapes and other problems, it has its downsides, as well as stunning scenery and some very committed eco-villagers, organic farmers and eco-tourism.
