The Ferry House is located in the Netherlands. It’s linked Foundation says it is about creating a new Economy, based on ‘sharing the Earth’. They say that:

A mystical valley and village in Ecuador. A ‘lost paradise’ or ‘paradise lost’, depending upon who you listen to. Home supposedly of some of the oldest inhabitants on Earth and the San Pedro Mushrooms. Much visited including by many would be shamen and women. But because of too many tourists, rapes and other problems, it has its downsides, as well as stunning scenery and some very committed eco-villagers, organic farmers and eco-tourism.

Arts squat right in the heartland of Amsterdam’s city centre. A creative hub for a diverse range of happenings, creators and a meeting place for many.
It offers opportunities for new ideas, new people and different types of creative endeavour - music, crafts, arts, events - to be shared with visitors and locals in busy Amsterdam.
Germany has an interesting, vibrant tradition of intentional communities and squats utilising/re-building old railway wagons and similar. Sometimes referred to as ‘mobile home squats’. Links also with 'party' and sound systems and activism.

Between 1968 and 1972, Stewart Brand and friends produced a series of Whole Earth Catalogs. They became the alternative underground bible filled with alternative ideas and living styles for a generation around the globe. The last edition and other related titles are up on line for free.

With nearly 30k hosts in 155 countries, Workaway is an alternative to WWooFing for both hosts and volunteers.
The ‘work’ is more varied too. But the internet shows that there is a diverse range of experiences that have come from the scheme, not always entirely positive.
Like other similar schemes, it is essentially a membership database, for both hosts and volunteers.
