Knockengorroch World Celidh began one mid-summer 1998, the year after an international ‘rainbow gathering’ took place on the land. It has grown but without losing any of our original character. It has acted as an inspiration for several other festivals in Dumfries and Galloway, and further afield.

In Wetzikon, Switzerland. They say that: “The Culture Factory is a former foundry, which is a place for cultural encounters and cultural production today.
The culture - one hand understood as performing and visual arts, on the other hand as human needs such as housing, work and meet each other - intended as a unifying element, the various parts of the Kulturfabrik together.”
An organic farmland area near Schiphol airport – squatted, but under threat from airport business developments.
A major ‘contested’ site at a time of climate change and environmental concerns. Demos and festivals to support the site are continuing.
At the Mushroom Farm, 70 kms from Vilnius in Lithuania. The Magick Gathering is a new psych-event with a hippy ideology. Based in 25 hectares of rural woodlands and ponds. A magick and mystical site indeed.
Very much a small acorn that being is loved and nurtured. The Mushroom Farm is set to become a venue for a variety of festivals and live events. Link to the MG facebook page.
Ken Kesey’s merry band. ‘You’re either on the bus, or off the bus’ circa 1964+. As immortalised in Tom Wolfe’s ‘Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test’ book. And frequently associated as the Grateful Dead’s crew with Captain Trips (Jerry Garcia) at the helm. This offers links to Prankster, Ken Babbs’ site (new pages and old pages) and some promo video for ‘Magic Trip’ documentary of the original Magic Bus, 'Furthur' trip.
Based in Italy, these festivals seem to be pretty alternative. Lots of links to music, films and ‘stuff’. Not sure how commercial or ‘otherwise’ these events actually are.
Their events have titles like 'Spirit of Woodstock', 'World Peace' and 'Rainbow Gatherings', but also 'Oktoberfest'!

The Mutoid Waste Company are an important and influential counter culture group. Here are links to two site.
