This is a real ‘web’, just like a spider’s – a place of connections – ideas – information – of dreams!
Our aim is to make it a Web of Hubs for alternative and free cultural spaces and people
The idea is to provide a loose-knit, non-hierarchical, web-based resource network for a wide range of what we are calling ‘Free Cultural Spaces’ (FCS). They wouldn’t necessarily use that term to describe themselves, but we need a simple, non-threatening term!
Description From 1976 the burst of energy that was punk broke the boring bubble that had become the corporate music arena.
Here’s a Facebook public site that tries to keep the spirit alive.
Description A bit like postmodernism, R50 Baugruppen Co-housing in Berlin offers a radical architect-led post-squat and post-commune take on reality.
Links to an interesting article about ordinary people working together with architects to become developers and residents, plus a video in German with English subtitles. It's about space and form as will as housing.
Description A UK-based network of radical housing co-ops and more. Their claim is that they are working for ‘radical social change’. The hub site includes links to films and publications.
Description Rainbow Dreaming
Described as a photo documentary about the area around Byron Bay and Nimbin – home of the original tribes of hippies in OZ. It links to a book of the same name and the Bodhi Farm community and the history of local festivals.
Description Rainbow gatherings. Apparently the largest grouping of non-members on the planet with a variety of websites and on-line pages. Also, here’s a link to a film of one gathering in Portugal in 2011.
Description Lots of pics of Rainbow Gatherings, when they happened for the first time in Europe in the early ‘80s in the Swiss alps.
Description Self-styled Conscious TV and internet hub site.
Lots of controversial material.
Links to their main site and Facebook page.
Description Reclaim the Seeds. This organisation supplies info and organises events to propagate non-GM seeds. Dutch-based, but plenty that can be read in English.
Description Reclaim the Streets have had website problems with cyber-hackers, but this should be the current site. They are an activist environmental organisation. Lots of 'events'.
Description Travis T. Hipp (aka Chandler Laughlin) originated the Red Dog Experience at the Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City in Nevada in the mid 1960s.
Psychedelic drugs, Native American rituals and stoner music from the likes of Big Brother and the Holding company, the Charlatans, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service and others all seem to have been part of the Psych-Cocktail.
Definitely an iconic experience and space.
