UK Photographer, Walter Lewis’s website.
He says: “ ‘Only when we are capable of dwelling... only then can we build’ – Martin Heidegger
In referring to 'dwelling', Heidegger is referring to a way of living which involves sensual encounter with the world around us. In other words a way of 'being' which involves a sensibility to the world which we inhabit. Only when we have that sensibility can we overcome the otherwise inevitable disenchantment of contemporary materialism, and start to build in a sustainable way.”
Some remarkable photos illustrating sustainability and how walking and photography can combine creatively. You can also link to Walter’s Blog from this site.
The Joe Strummer Foundation
Set up by family and close friends a year after Joe’s (from the Clash) passing. The Joe Strummer Foundation continues to give opportunities to musicians and support to projects around the world that creates empowerment through music.

Well-established small, intentional arts community in Los Angeles in the USA. They say: "Synchronicity LA is a cooperative community house in the heart of the Los Angeles. We are a house of 11 artists: musicians, social workers, teachers, scientists, engineers, filmmakers, cooks, historians, and more."

Theo is an amazing Dutch artist who makes kinetic sculptures that walk on the beach called Strandbeests. Here is a link to his main site and to an additional video.
A method called Total Art, described by it's creator as a soft way out of the Matrix, but meanwhile also a real place in the French Vogese Mountains (Lotharingen). The site is only available in German (English, French, and Dutch versions are still under construction. Founder Coen Reith a.k.a. Swami Anand Coen is ex-Baghwan and has been preparing this 'TAO-experience' for years, mentioning about 30 different upcoming experience-fields in the whole park. It's goal is to release it's participants from imprinted rightbrainpatterns to improve the World as a whole, by reeducation through Total Art.
Accomodation is possible in several levels of luxury, including camping (because the terrain is connected to a regular smallsized Camping of owner Conrad Reith. On the long-term, a intentional community seems to be the target in the French-German border area, but probably it is so opensourced that they'll be happy to share more about the TAO-methods to make more places where it is taught/lived.
A hacker-based collective of some students, living somewhere on the (ex-Atlantian) Canary Islands.
They've been creating an oasis, cyberhippies they are calling themselves and are very much worth a visit if you end up on one of those bountifull Islands near the African Coast. However, on Spanish ground they've been squatting a piece of land with putting up tents. In their own words: It will be creating new & deploying existing free technology, theory and art. The goal is to create a functional technological and behavioural recipe/typology (a "lifestyle infrastructure") for a free, post-capitalist society. A lot of work has already been done by the hackbase, and by other people & projects. Everybody is welcome + it's really cheap.
Dutch-based, but world-wide site linking up artist in residence and communities programmes.
A former barracks on the border of Germany and Netherlands, near Luneburg. It has been transformed into an arts community. It offers living spaces, workshops and creative events. They have a lovely statement of intent, which translates into English roughly as:
“We have the will, under the guidance of the ignorant, to do the impossible for the ungrateful. We have for so long, done so much with so little that we can do everything with nothing.”
