The Saints have traded away defensive tackle Malcom Brown to the Jaguars, according to multiple reports. The news first broke from NFL Network Ian Rapoport. The team is getting back an undisclosed draft pick for him, and it didnt work out too bad for Brown, who is getting a raise from Jacksonville in the form of a 2-year, $11 million deal that has $8 million guaranteed.Brown was reportedly on the shopping list at the beginning of March, and then it came out that he was expected to be released. Either way, the move saves the Saints $5 million in cap space. He was an important part of the team for the past couple of seasons, as he was known more as a run-stuffing presence Tyson Campbell T-Shirt. When he was out for a three-game stretch in 2020, the impact of not having him in the lineup was felt.No matter what the pick ends up being, it good to see them get something out of it for a player that they intended to release. New Orleans has done a good job navigating their salary cap situation leading up to the start of the new league year, and while they may not be big contenders in the free agent department, they certainly should find some players that will hopefully help them remain contenders in the new season.
