7th Transnational Futurological Symposium on Free Cultural Spaces
ADM
Amsterdam
Dates: 12-15 October 2017
Dear ...
We hereby invite you to participate in the 7th Transnational Futurological Symposium on Free Cultural Spaces on 12-15 October 2017 at the ADM site in Amsterdam: adm.amsterdam
After three symposia at Ruigoord in Amsterdam, and then in Boom-Land in Portugal, Christiania in Denmark and the Republic of Užupis in Lithuania, the seventh symposium is now descending on the ADM. This squatted independent place celebrates its twentieth anniversary not only on October 12, but ADM is also endangered in its survival. The symposium is part of the ADM festival organized at the same time.
The aim of the symposium is to generate a number of specific proposals regarding the survival of free cultural spaces. Many free spaces often literally survive in the margins of the big cities. This is why we should not allow the free cultural spaces to be expelled from the city centres.
During the symposium, the urban importance of free-states is emphasized by the participants and we investigate ways to regain space in the face of gentrification of many inner city areas.
The symposium wants to make a statement about the importance of new free cultural spaces in the centres of cities around the world. The final day of the symposium is intended to bring this statement to Amsterdam in word and deed.
Invited are amongst others Christiania in Copenhagen, Gängenviertel Hamburg, Autonomedia New York, Doel near Antwerp, Užupis Republic in Vilnius, Institut for X in Århus, Thylejren in Jutland, UFA-Fabrik in Berlin, Proyecto Nuovo Mundo in Mexico, Shiram in Rusland,The Poortgebouw in Rotterdam, The Vrijplaats in Leiden, Landbouwbelang in Maastricht and the Cultural Defense Line of Amsterdam*. A number of freezones have already been confirmed.
Being a representative of a free cultural space, we ask you to take a seat and take part in the symposium. Please reply and we will keep you informed of preparatory meetings and program completion.
Sincerely,
Hay Schoolmeeters, Jaap Draaisma, Ralf van der Schaar, Frank Sol, Valal Dupont, Hans Plomp, Aja Waalwijk and Eric Duivenvoorden
